Eeek! A mouse!

The first computer mouse was invented by Douglas Engelbart; the concept was created in 1961 while he daydreamed at a computer graphics conference. It was made out of wood with a pair of small wheels, one situated horizontal and one vertical. The prototype was built in 1964, the patent application for the “X-Y position indicator for display system” was filed in 1967 and the patent was awarded in 1970.
